January is the time of year when we make resolutions that we may or may not keep (remember when I said I was thinking about not buying new sock yarn in 2010? Hahahahaha.) and we look for ways to structure our knitting and crocheting. As always, Ravelry comes to the rescue with a myriad of groups designed to challenge and inspire. Here are some that caught my eye; these are all Ravelry links, so if you aren’t a member, you’ll have to sign up, but believe me, it is well worth it.
11 Sweaters in 2011: For those who have done the Knit a Sweater a Month challenge, this one will be easy. Apparently, baby sweaters count!
For sock lovers, we have a lot of choices. Sock Knitters Anonymous offers a monthly SOCKDOWN with fabulous prizes. Some very ambitious Ravelers have decided to knit every single sock in Cookie A’s Knit. Sock. Love (available at the store), again with prizes. And finally, A Year of Stash Socks hosts a monthly KAL of two patterns (plus a “vanilla” option) designed to get your sock yarn stash down to manageable proportions (so you can buy NEW sock yarn, of course!).
Last year, David and I, and several of our customers participated in the 10 Shawls in 2010 group, which we found to be immensely fun, challenging, and gratifying. The group is back again this year with 11 Shawls in 2011!
We hope these groups will inspire you to organize your fiber goals for the year. How are you planning out your knitting and crocheting for 2011?
Happy New Year!
