Decisions, Decisions

Last time we posted, Anna mentioned our “informal” Stephen West knit-along.   I want to knit the Daybreak, but always have a hard time putting together two yarns.   One of my tricks is twisting the yarns together (providing they are in hanks and not skeins) to see how well they blend.  Anna thought that you may want to see what I mean, and we are going to ask you, our readers, to vote on the color combination you like best.

Example 1:

tosh sock, colorways clover and golden hickory.

The golden hickory has some light green shot through it, so I thought perhaps there was potential for this color combination; however, once we twisted the two together…

…not so much.

Next candidate:  Malabrigo sock, colorways terra cotta and primavera:

Twist away, and:

It has potential.

Our third candidate:

Malabrigo sock in arbol and terra cotta.

Another good choice.

Now it’s up to you.  Color choice 1, 2 or 3?  Please leave a note in the comments or you can email me with your vote.

    I vote 2 or 3–both look equally awesome. :)

  2. Diane says:

#3 – but I would prefer colors even more similar than that. I really am a wimp when it comes to color choices.

  3. Michelle says:

    Number 1 all the way.

  4. Juliann says:

I like all three for the Daybreak, but number 3 does have more similarities in color. One of my friends tells me I think too hard about the color choices I make. Her rule is all skeins must have one color in all of them that is the same. The rest is not important. It works for her. I have to think about it.

While I am partial to the #3 combination (I used it for my version of Akimbo), I vote for #1. . .

  6. Donna Schulte says:

Judging from all the posts on Ravelry for this pattern, I don’t think you can go wrong with any of these, but I will vote for #3.

  7. rebecca says:

I like all of them – I like #1 the best.

  8. linda-kaye says:

#1 – I’m a real fan of turquoise and #1 appeals to me the most. The other two combinations look like they will be striking, but just not for me.

  9. Lee says:

    …not even a doubt in my mind..#3

  10. Michael says:

Having looked at a lot of Daybreaks on Ravelry and after kniting one myself, I think the most successful ones are those in which there is a distint contrast between colors. You want the color change to really show. Yes, number 1 is high contrast, but it doesn’t work (in my opinion). I cast my vote for number 3.

  11. Kim Budash says:

No doubt about it, number three all the way. I too thought that number one would work until you put it together, YUCK!! Number two is okay too, but for me its number three all the way!!!

  12. David A says:

After seeing #1 in person, I change my vote to #3. . .
