Okay, so maybe you read last Monday’s entry on shawlettes and thought “I’d like to do lace, but I can’t deal with a shawl right now.” How about a hat or two? Here are some ideas that count as lace for our Summer of Socks and Lace contest and would also make great gifts to give this winter.
Foliage from Knitty is written for two yarn weights, worsted and chunky. I love to make this in Malabrigo Worsted, and I think this would be a great choice in our new Alpaca Baby Chunky from Cascade.
Need to make some baby hats? Try this simple Feather and Fan Bonnet (link to free Ravelry download) in Tahki Cotton Classic. Or, Interweave offers this free Vine Lace Baby hat from their Knitting Daily site, perfect for using up that half ball of sock yarn.
We just received tons of new colors of Blue Sky Alpaca Melange and Alpaca Silk. Try it out in Argyle Lace hat (click here for a picture) from Boutique Knits (available in the store), or use it in a lace beret in Knitty’s Fern Glade pattern.
Still need ideas?Use up some sock yarn in the Springtime in Philadelphia beret. Here’s another lace beret, Grace, worked in a dk weight — wouldn’t this be pretty in the Panda Silk DK? Finally, this Halley’s Comet hat uses any worsted weight yarn.
We hope this inspires you to try some lace! Again, our thanks go out to the designers who make the free patterns I’ve listed here possible.
