Have you finished making all of your handmade gifts for the holidays? Do you still have yarn?
Perhaps you should join the group of daring stitchers who will again attempt The Twelve Days of Casting On.
All it means is that you cast on a new project each day for 12 days, starting on December 25. There are no other rules. You need not finish any of these projects. Swatches count. But, you could get a head start on next year’s gift stash. You could also learn whether that yarn that has been winking at you will in fact make a good scarf in a pattern you favorited on Ravelry 8 years ago.
Think of it as a social experiment with yourself. In years past, I did not decide what projects I would cast on before the 12 days started. It was a little stressful (but in a fun way!) to have to come up with something new EVERY DAY. This year, I have cleaned up my Rav queue and the first 25 or so patterns represent what I will choose from for this exercise. Some of them are small, and could be finished in one day. Some are large, but this will at least get me started.
If you are up for this, photograph your work and tag it with #12daysofcastingon2015 on all of the social media sites you use. This way, everyone can track your crazy progress. In case you can’t think of 12 things you would like to start, you can always copy someone else. We’re chatting up a storm about it in our Ravelry Group!
You might need more needles. If so, please come see us. And don’t worry, if finishing projects is important to you, we will have another “along” later this year to address this “need.”
